2019 IBM – Year In Review

Partnered with creative and development team to produce the 2019 IBM Year in Review microsite. My task was animating the illustrations and exported optimized assets in Lottie/Bodymovin, ensuring scalable assets for smooth, code-based implementation.

Challenge

Delivering final assets as Lottie/JSON animations imposed technical constraints. The design had to adhere to Lottie’s supported features, limiting the use of image sequences, native After Effects effects, and certain expressions. Maintaining visual quality within these restrictions was a key challenge throughout production.

Solution

All visual assets were rebuilt in After Effects using shape layers to minimize reliance on raster images. Final deliverables included an MP4 reference video for developers, as well as a document detailing timecodes for each animation section per the development team’s request.
